The Cause:
Proceeds from this year’s races will be donated to the Jack Pijanowski scholarship fund. Jack is the 3 year
old son of local Fayetteville residents, Kim and John Pijanowski. Kim was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which
is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in October 2011. This fatal disease affects the motor neurons in the body that control
voluntary muscles, such as arms and legs, in addition to breathing and swallowing. Prior to her diagnosis, Kim was working on her
Ph.D. in education. John is currently an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership Curriculum and Instruction at the University
of Arkansas. Though Kim’s future love and emotional support of Jack cannot be replaced, the funds from this year’s races will go toward
securing Jack’s educational future.
